Obama makes another BIG mistake

Obama to Reappoint Bernanke as Fed Chief
By: Reuters

U.S. President Barack Obama will reappoint Ben Bernanke for a second term as chairman of the Federal Reserve on Tuesday, a senior administration official said on Monday.

Bernanke, whose four-year term as head of the U.S. central bank ends on Jan. 31, 2010, will also be praised by Obama for his handling of the financial crisis, the official said.

Financial markets have given Bernanke high marks on the job and his reappointment was widely forecast, although a White House announcement was not expected until later this year.

Bernanke, 55, was appointed by President George W. Bush to succeed Alan Greenspan and is a widely respected monetary scholar who has long called for a more open central bank.

In remarks prepared for delivery at an event in Massachusetts, where Obama is on vacation, the president will also say the U.S. auto industry is “showing signs of life” and the U.S. credit and housing markets have been “saved from collapse,” the official said.

“The man next to me, Ben Bernanke, has led the Fed through one of the worst financial crises that this nation and this world have ever faced,” Obama will say in a statement to the media at 9 am New York time.

Bernanke has led the Fed and the U.S. economy during its most tumultuous period since the Great Depression of the 1930s. The announcement on Tuesday will end any lingering worries about who might head the central bank as the economy recovers.

Bernanke has mapped out his strategy to pull back the U.S. economy from exceptionally low interest rates and extricate the Fed from a flood of loans to financial markets without sparking unwanted inflation.

Blackwater has longstanding ties to CIA

(CNN) — The private military contractor formerly known as Blackwater has held classified contracts with the Central Intelligence Agency for nearly a decade, but an allegation that the contractor was part of a secret CIA program to kill al Qaeda operatives — if true — would take the relationship to a whole new level.

The CIA hired the private security firm Blackwater USA in 2004 to work on a covert program aimed at targeting and potentially killing top al Qaeda leaders, a source familiar with the program told CNN.

Former company executives deny knowing about the program. Current leaders of the company did not return calls to CNN. The CIA won’t comment on classified contracts.

The classified program, canceled by CIA director Leon Panetta earlier this year, was part of a broader effort inside the CIA to develop the capacity to conduct training, surveillance and possible covert operations overseas, according to the source. The program was outsourced to contractors to “put some distance” between the effort and the U.S. government.

Other contractors were brought in for other parts of the program, another source said, and Blackwater’s involvement ended by mid-2006.

But one thing is clear: The company that renamed itself Xe earlier this year in an effort to escape controversy surrounding a 2007 shooting in Baghdad that left 17 Iraqis dead has had a long relationship with the world’s most famous spy agenc

When Erik Prince first opened his Blackwater training facility in the late ’90s, his clients included special forces teams and law enforcement agencies from around the country. Prince had expressed frustration with the training facilities he visited during his time as a Navy SEAL, and a sizable inheritance allowed him the financial freedom to retire from the military and try his hand at creating a better facility.

His first clients were indeed SEAL teams. But they also included teams from other government agencies, including the CIA. Case officers and protection details, the people generally accustomed to working in the shadows, began showing up for training on the shooting range or the driving track in a rural part of North Carolina.

When then-CIA Executive Director Alvin “Buzzy” Krongard, whose own son was a Navy SEAL, visited the facility, former Blackwater President Gary Jackson suggested he meet with Prince, who worked out of an office in the Washington area. The two had lunch and Krongard immediately took a liking to the man who would later lead the world’s most notorious private contracting company.

At the time, contacts like these were essential to building the business, so when terror struck the heart of America in September 2001, Prince called up his new friend Krongard and offered to help. Sources inside the agency at the time say that Krongard in fact, was pushing hard for Blackwater to be given the first urgent and compelling, no-bid contract to protect CIA facilities in Afghanistan. The military, it seems, wasn’t up to the task of staffing such an effort.

Once awarded the initial contract, Prince maintained a close relationship with Krongard, and made trips to Afghanistan to make sure things were going smoothly.

The idea that the agency came to Blackwater for help on any other contracts, including one with the overall goal of locating and assassinating al Qaeda operatives, wouldn’t come as a huge surprise, particularly since so much of the intelligence budget is spent on private contractors.

But with investigations under way into just what was done and by whom at the CIA under the Bush administration, people are remaining tight-lipped. Especially under the threat of possible prosecution, should it go that far.

Obama Joker Posters – hahaha!

Officials in Clermont, Florida, are flummoxed. They can’t decide if the Obama as Joker posters put up around town are illegal or protected by freedom of speech. “The Clermont Police Department says the signs involve city code violations and freedom of speech, so investigators are asking the state attorney for help,” reports WFTV.

“Police have made no arrests or filed any formal charges, so Eyewitness News asked what laws the sign hangers are breaking. Even if it wasn’t the face of the Joker, the city says any kind of signage placed on public property is illegal,” the news station explains.

No word on how many people are under investigation for placing garage sale and lost dog signage around the central Florida town.

“Police say code enforcement usually removes other signs off poles and out of the ground, but the glued Joker posters are causing damage and the city says it is trying to determine how much it costs to fix. One Post Office blue box had to be re-painted.”

Alex Jones continues to stress that the posters should be placed in public commons areas along with other posters and signage. The posters should not be glued on government or private property.

On Friday, Fox News covered the Obama as Joker campaign. Fox quotes a Clermont police officer who said investigators are attempting to gather enough evidence to present the case to the state attorney’s office for review.

“No motive has been formally determined, but Jensen noted a contest posted on Infowars.com that called on people to download a version of the poster to be hung in ‘public spaces’ in their neighborhood,” Joshua Rhett Miller writes for Fox.

A Channel 13 news report from earlier in the week.

The Clermont police and Florida attorney general’s office are wasting a lot of time and tax payer money investigating what amounts to petty vandalism. Authorities in Florida consider stapling the posters to utility poles a crime.

It is probably illegal for dogs to do their business on public and private property in Clermont. It would be interesting to find out how many times the state AG has been called to investigate. Ditto skateboarders and litterers.

If ace investigators in the Florida AG’s office are having a difficult time determining a “motive” for what they consider a crime worthy of expensive investigation, they need to read Obama as Joker Explained.

Mom Tasered in front of kids ‘posed no threat’

She has filed suit against cop who used device on her during traffic stop

How does a law-abiding mom driving home with two kids end up being Tasered, handcuffed and arrested — while her children are left alone for 40 minutes in the car, waiting for someone to come get them?

That’s a question that Audra Harmon hopes will be answered by a lawsuit she has filed against the Onondaga County (N.Y.) Sheriff’s Department. In the process, she and her attorney told TODAY’s Meredith Vieira Friday in New York, they hope to spur a debate over whether police should be carrying Tasers at all.

The suit, seeking unspecified monetary damages on an array of charges including false arrest and police brutality, has been filed, said attorney Terrance Hoffman, “to bring awareness not only that anybody can be a potential victim, but also awareness to the police officers who have the Tasers to be a little more judicious and think it out a little more before they use this kind of device. Then the overall picture is whether or not Tasers should be used in law enforcement.”
